Into Anamalai Tiger Reserve with Slow Moto Tours

Kickstarting our season  – From Ha Giang loop to our Diwali tour

Our upcoming season kicks off with our first tour in October, perfectly timed with Diwali, the festival of lights. This will be a unique experience for our guests as we ride through the stunning landscapes of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Pratish has been to Vietnam on the famous Ha Giang Loop and is sharing his impressions in this blog post.

The Ha Giang Loop in northern Vietnam is a dream route for any motorbike lover. For me, it was no different. After months of research, I finally embarked on this much-anticipated journey in April this year. The Ha Giang Loop offers a unique glimpse into Vietnam, far removed from the bustling cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

As someone who manages the on-ground operations for Slow Moto Tours, this was more than just a personal adventure. It was an opportunity to observe and pick up tips from the Ha Giang tour experience. But more importantly, it allowed me to relax and enjoy the ride as a guest, without worrying about the logistics—a perspective that is invaluable for someone in the tour business.

The 3-day tour, covering about 300 kilometers, took us through some of the most breathtaking sceneries Vietnam has to offer—winding hilly roads, serene valleys, and rural villages. Our group comprised about 20 riders, with most opting for the pillion ride behind local drivers (the easy rider option), while a few chose to ride solo. Given that our luggage was tied behind the scooters, we all packed minimally, carrying only the essentials.

While the tour captain spoke English, the drivers’ limited English made communication challenging at times. On the second day, one of our bikes broke down in a remote location, with no immediate support available. Fortunately, with the help of some self-ride scooters in our group, we managed the situation, and a spare bike was arranged the next day. For accommodations, we stayed in local homestays with dormitory setups, which offered a closer connection to the local culture but lacked the privacy and comfort some might prefer.

By the end of the tour, I had made new friends and seen a side of Vietnam that would be impossible to experience as a typical tourist. While the Ha Giang Loop can be done in a four-wheeler, there’s nothing quite like doing it on a scooter or motorbike.

Our upcoming season kicks off with our first tour from October 28th to November 2nd, perfectly timed with Diwali, the festival of lights. This will be a unique experience for our guests as we ride through the stunning landscapes of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The carefully curated route, spanning about 500 kilometers, takes us through some of the best landscapes South India has to offer. We ride through quintessential Indian towns, navigate winding hill roads, and pass through rural villages, offering a diverse and immersive riding experience over four days.

  • Personalized Experience: We limit our group size to a maximum of 6 motorbikes (plus 2 for Jo and myself), ensuring each rider receives individual attention and guidance, creating a more intimate and enjoyable experience.
  • Cultural Immersion: During the ride, we take breaks to enjoy the authentic Indian energy drink, Chai, at local eateries, along with famous tea-time snacks. Our route is designed to immerse you in the local culture, away from the typical tourist trails.
  • Unique Accommodations: Our accommodations are carefully selected to offer a peaceful retreat after a day of riding. Whether it’s a beachside stay, a forest hideaway, or a plantation retreat, each location provides a unique and relaxing environment. You can unwind by taking a swim in the river or the swimming pool and indulge in lip-smacking local cuisine.
  • Comprehensive Support: Jo and I ride along with you on our motorbikes, accompanied by a service truck and a dedicated mechanic who are available for any support throughout the tour. This ensures that any unforeseen issues are handled swiftly, allowing you to focus on the ride and the experience.
  • Extended Relaxation: Our guests check in a day before the tour starts and check out a day after, giving them ample time to relax, acclimatize, and prepare for the journey ahead.

Exploring different landscapes on a motorbike offers a sense of freedom and adventure that few other experiences can match. Our tours in South India provide the perfect opportunity to discover this for yourself. We are excited to welcome you on our Diwali season tour and to share the beauty of southern India with you during this festive season.

We look forward to riding with you and making unforgettable memories on and off the road.
